Shooting boards:
Generally I do shooting boards in pencil only. The size of the originals are 3'' x 2.25''. I can produce any where from 16 to 35 frames in an eight hour day depending on the subject. (Close-ups and reaction shots without background detail are faster to render. Wide shots with multiple people and a large amount of detail obviously take longer.) I have not reworked any samples on my sight. I often see samples from other online portfolios that I know misrepresent their speed by the exibit of detail and render quality. I consider a shooting board frame to take between 15 and 30 minutes to draw and render. The images may include minimal hand written direction. I do not do special panel/script layouts. However, I can give a proper referral if you should need one. Originals are then scanned into the computer. Once scanned panels can be transferred to the client via email or FTP.
Colored storyboards:
After the concept and visualization meeting, I will draw and scan the line drawings, which will then be sent to the client for review and approval to move on to the coloring stage. Upon receiving the line drawing approval I will then proceed to color it. I do all coloring in the computer only. A tight color render can take up to 2 hours. Once upon completion and approval of the final draft image is transferred to the client via email or FTP.
Tight renderings:
The samples exibited on this site, I did not include any reworked or tight rendered shooting boards or comps. Through my experience as a storyboard artist we don't usaually have the luxiury of time. So I thought it was best to show actual samples from my jobs. However, on my sketchbook link you will see tighter drawing. I believe that what makes a storyboard artist good is his ability to understand, adapt, and shape his abilities to best suit his client's needs.
